Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in Me. John 14:1

Are you always rushing to get things done? Do you feel that you are pulled by the desire to control your current work and circumstance? Do you feel that your senses are scattered all over the place? Are you working with your own understanding and ability, hoping your work will please God?

This is a constant battle that we all go through daily. In fact, as I develop and launch my leadership coaching program, I feel it more often than not. There are more than twenty tabs open in my browser at all times. There are so many things to get done to a point where I can’t even note everything down on my to-do list. The day seems so short and my energy so limited. My mind is constantly jumping from one thing to another. The anxiety level goes up and the frustration kicks in. All of a sudden, I am trapped in my own mindset and filled with debilitating thoughts.

Does this sound familiar to you in any way? If it does, there is something you must remember. You are not meant to be the one who controls and produces the result, influence and impact.

As Christians, we often are too focused on increasing impact and influence whether that’s for God’s kingdom or for our personal ambition.

You may be asking questions like:

  • What can I do to bring His kingdom through my work and my ministry?
  • How does God want to work through me?
  • What would be something I can do today to impact people around me and my industry?
  • How can I increase my influence so I can reach more people?
  • How can I get more things done?
  • What can I do more for God?”

Or, you may have just given up to understand what it means for you to bring His kingdom to your workplace and just go through your checklist to get things done for the sake of your work and given responsibilities.

But regardless of where you stand in the spectrum, the truth is that God wants to deepen His relationship with you. That is His ultimate desire and pursuit. It is not the impact and influence that He cares about but it is you, His beloved child whom He is in madly love with.

When you yield your heart, agenda, and vicious cycle of control and enter into that resting place where you intimately connect with God, you are naturally and supernaturally setting yourself to become a sacred channel for God to breathe and move through you freely and powerfully. God-size and God-ordained impacts and influence are only birthed from the place of intimacy. In other words, His kingdom manifests naturally as a byproduct of your intimate connection with God.

That place of intimacy is where you tangibly feel God’s heart and experience His mind overlapping with yours. And when you have God’s heart and His vision, you gain such clarity and direction that you get to simplify your priorities by realizing what to focus on and what not to focus on.

Resting in His presence is not easy. Resting can sound simple yet it requires a fight, an intentional fight. Resting doesn’t take place in your inactivity. It takes place in your intense activity to refine your focus on God. Your voice and the enemy’s voice shut down and you enter into a place where you are completely saturated by His presence and His thoughts. This is hard work. It requires your focus, commitment, discipline and faith.

But remember, this is the place where God is inviting you to be daily. He wants to show you the world through His lens. He wants you to experience what it means to be truly alive as you abide in your true Father who created you with a purpose and a calling.

Reflections:

  1. What is causing your heart to rush to get things done and scatter your senses?
  2. What are the obstacles that prevent you from re-centering your scattered senses upon the presence of God daily to enter into His presence?
  3. How can you access His heart more? Who are the people around you whom you can talk to and learn from about intimately connecting with God?
